This document is a working draft awaiting final review by Bereket Farmstead and its legal advisor. It may change before the website officially launches.
Bereket Farmstead wants everyone to be able to learn about our farm and get in touch with us, including people who use assistive technology. We design and build this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
What we've done
- A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page
- Full keyboard navigation, with visible focus indicators on links, buttons and form fields
- A logical heading structure and semantic page regions so screen reader users can move around easily
- A text alternative for every meaningful image. Decorative ornaments are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and background colors chosen to meet AA contrast ratios
- Form fields with visible labels, clear instructions and error messages that are linked to each field and announced by screen readers
- A photo viewer that works with the keyboard (arrow keys and Escape) and with swipe gestures on touch screens
- Respect for your device's "reduce motion" setting, which turns off animations
- Layouts that adapt to phones, tablets and large screens, and support zooming text up to 200%
Known limitations
We test with automated tools and by hand using a keyboard, but no website is perfect. Some links lead to other organizations' websites, such as share links and extension resources, and we can't control how accessible those websites are.
